5 Day Weekend Well, Memorial Day was good to me this year. It was nice having the time off work and class. I took Tuesday off work so I'd have that extra day to sit around and do nothing. My goal for the weekend was simple: drink and play video games. I guess it's safe to say mission accomplished. Jish was over from Saturday night till Monday afternoon and we went through a 30 pack and 2 12's of High Life. Also during this time we did nothing but play video games or drive around to get video games. Last Friday at work we were talking about regular Nintendo in the office and it made me really want to play. It also gave me the urge to bust out my Genesis as well. So while I was home Sunday morning I looked everywhere to try and find all of my NES and SEGA things. After about an hour I could only find the NES with some games and no controllers or hook-ups either, and only the Genesis systems. Luckily I had one last idea before I gave up and I ended up finding all my games there =]. The only problem was I still had no controllers for the NES and after testing my controllers for the SEGA went to shit since I used them last. It was then our mission (well, my mission) to go to as many GameStop's as it takes to get these controllers and possibly some new games. We started out on our way to the one in Riverview on Fort St. since that was the closest one. When we pulled up, we realized how early it still was. We woke up at 8:30 and started playing games, since we both work full time morning jobs, we are in the habit of waking up that early even on the weekend. Luckily the minute we pulled into the parking lot they just opened (11:00). We walked in and asked if they had anything SEGA or NES related, but the guy kinda gave us a blank look like "What the hell do you want that for? Buy an X-box instead!" and sadly informed us that the only 2 GameStop's in the area that still had SEGA or NES were in Lincoln Park and Taylor. Funny thing is, we already planned on going to these. So off to the Taylor store we go! On our way there a thought hit me. "I bet the Dirt Mall has this shit" So we went. Of course, the Dirt Mall has never let me down before while looking for hard-to-find things. After about 20 minutes of walking around pricing I walked out with 2 brand new SEGA controllers and 2 used NES controllers. It only cost $20 for the 4, and since they are hard to find I didn't feel ripped off. The prices on the game's there seemed rather high to me though, so we still headed off to GameStop in Taylor. There was a small selection of games there, and they were about the same price as at the Trade Center. I found it kinda odd that I pay as much for N64 games as I do NES games, but oh well. I bought about 5 games there and asked the lady (Maureen, who ended up being a lying b-word) where else I could find SEGA games around here. She told me to check out the GS in Lincoln Park (which I already planned on doing) and that the one in Dearborn has a huuuuge selection of older games. I asked her how to get there and decided that I would go to it on my way back to my apt after the weekend is over, since it is right off Southfield Freeway. So I called the Lincoln Park store to make sure they had SEGA still and he was like "Yeah, we got SEGA games." So we jumped on 75 and headed out to the store. When we got there, I realized that the guy left out the minor detail of having only 10 games. Gas is expensive, and this dude just ruined the mood. For those of you that aren't familiar with the area, the LP GS is on Southfield and Toledo, which popped the idea of heading out to the Dearborn GS just to see exactly what they have. So off we went. I'd have to say that I was rather excited after Maureen (I will never forget this name) told us they had a huuuuuge selection of SEGA games. Also, the old games were on a 30% off sale, which ended Monday, so that helped me decide on going out there at the time too. Just thought I'd mention that. Anyways, we got all the way out there and walked inside. The lack of little black cartridges in my vision was rather upsetting. They had absolutely nothing. I wanted to call up Maureen and tell her just how much time she wasted of mine sending me out to Dearborn to find an empty basket. Weak as hell. So we headed back and continued to play old school video games for the remainder of the evening. Highlights of the weekend: - Winning at indoor glow-in-the-dark putt-putt on Saturday (I always win) - Driving to the pizza delivery place because we wanted to see a menu (it seemed realllly funny at the time...) - Playing endless games of Horse, Around the World, and BASEketball, and somehow linking drinking into all of them. - Going to ConneXion and meeting Luke and Josh for the first time. - Watching the Pistons advance to the NBA Finals (yeah my weekend ended Wednesday morning)
